First of all, let us consider the meaning of the term “luxury bathtubs”. What does the word “luxury” actually mean? In the most common interpretations, the two meanings of this word are: “something inessential but conducive to pleasure and comfort” and “something expensive or hard to obtain”. In light of bathrooms and bathroom design, I would typically think of both of these meanings roiled into one.

Freestanding bathtubs are usually considered a luxury form of bathtub, such as the clawfoot bathtub, which is the epitome of the Victorian Era. They are also expensive and are not often seen in everyday typical domestic dwellings.

Most people opt for a one-person bathtub, but two-person bathtubs are available. They are larger and generally cost more, but they do carry an air of extravagance, space and comfort. However, they do not promote energy saving and use a lot of water to fill to a useable level. This may prove impractical for day-to-day use.

Ultra deep bathtubs are available for the ultimate in submerged bathing. The added buoyancy allows you to feel weightless and wrapped in warmth. These bathtubs are also available with chromotherapy lighting ready fitted.

Whirlpool tubs make use of jets of air or water to massage you whilst you bathe. This can prove very relaxing. This type of bathtub would be considered luxurious due to expense, rarity and physical therapy.

Soft bathtubs are available for those with pressure sores or other physical injuries and allow you to feel like you are in a soft comfortable bed whilst you bathe. Going by dictionary definition, walk in bathtubs may also be considered luxurious. They are again rare, expensive and benefit the users who need them, such as those with arthritis or the elderly. They are available with in-built jets, whirlpools, chromotherapy lighting and vibrating massage devices.
