The above image shows a standard chromotherapy LED spotlight. Chromotherapy light fittings can be installed anywhere and in any room, but within domestic housing, this type of light fitting is typically reserved for the bathroom. There are a number of “luxury” bathtubs, which incorporate integrated chromotherapy light fittings.

If you do not want to change your bathtub or simply cannot change your bathtub, you can still consider adding a new dimension to your bathing experience with underwater chromotherapy lights. These lights promote an inviting, mood-enhancing environment and should be IP68 rated for safety. Click here for more information on IP ratings.

There are a range of different chromotherapy light fittings and operation options available. I have used the simple single LED spotlight shown above as an example.

As far as operation and controls, the standard chromotherapy light fitting is operated via a separate touch pad. This allows the user to select individual colours or to opt for an automatic cycle. With the latter option, the light fitting will cycle through the colour spectrum on its own, whilst you lie back and relax. Note that the programmed spectrum of colours may differ with manufacturer and model.

The control pads are typically available in white, chrome or gold finish and other colours are likely available upon request. For safety, underwater lights should only be operated when the bath is filled with water.

The standard makeshift chromotherapy spotlight fits securely to the interior of the bath using suction and features high brilliance LED’s. Bathtubs that are manufactured to include integral chromotherapy lighting will require electrical installation. This may be via a transformer, plug and socket, but in a wet bathroom environment these components would need to be one hundred percent waterproof, or kept well away from any risk of water ingress.
